They delivered, picked up the old Bosch, and I was able to install the new one with only one additional trip to Lowes to pick up a part that wasn't included. Anyway, after doing a lot of research on the problem with the dishwasher I decided to just get a new Whirlpool one from Lowes and install it myself. I tried to install a new control board in our Bosch but I couldn't find the OEM part and the one I got from a pretty trusted source didn't work (but I trust them because they accept all part returns without a restock fee). I'm a believer in trying to fix appliances myself as I've installed thermocouples in water heaters, start relays/capacitors in refrigerators, 3n1's in chest freezers, and control boards in microwaves to bring each of them back from the dead. Our 8 1/2 year old Bosch which had worked well up until then suddenly stopped. There isn't a lot else that can go wrong on these things and with new machines being made more cheaply all the time to increase profit margins, there is no guarantee that a new one will last longer before failure. If what you find is that it does indeed need a new control board, I wouldn't have a problem with spending several hundred dollars on one if the machine has served you well otherwise. I almost always find a variety of solutions for any problem I type in and usually after trying them out, I can find one that will work. It's actually one less headache of having to time appliance deliveries to a completed kitchen.įor any household appliance, my go to for trying to fix problems is google and youtube. I just set it in the garage while the kitchen was being worked on and plumbed it back in when ready. We just completely gutted, expanded and redid our kitchen last year and reused our couple year old dishwasher. So, leave it as is for a few more years and just deal with the periodic annoyance? Or try to repair it?ĭishwashers are standard sizes so whether you are planning on redoing the kitchen in 3 years shouldn't really be a factor. We are planning to redo our kitchen in about 3 years, so I don't want to buy a new dishwasher now I'd rather keep this one going until we redo the kitchen, then buy a new one at that point. But wondering if anyone else has run into this, and also, should I attempt a DIY repair with the help of YouTube and parts from or a similar site? I have average "handyman" capability. It isn't a huge deal to me, just a minor annoyance. until the next time it happens a couple of days later. Then open it, turn it off, turn it back on, and it should be okay. I called Bosch and they said it is likely an issue with the control board, and the way to (temporarily) fix it is to hold down the start button for 5 seconds, then close it, and let it run through a very brief reset cycle. A few times a week, when turned on to set the cycle, the display will show :02 (as in two minutes). We run it at least once a day, and sometimes twice (3 kids in the house). We have a Bosch dishwasher (Ascenta) that is 6 years old.
