Protect yourself with vaccinations to prevent diseases such as influenza, pneumonia, shingles and COVID-19. Rheumatoid arthritis itself and many of the medications used to combat it can impair the immune system, leading to increased infections. People who have rheumatoid arthritis are much more likely to develop Sjogren's syndrome, a disorder that decreases the amount of moisture in the eyes and mouth. However, these nodules can form anywhere in the body, including the heart and lungs. These firm bumps of tissue most commonly form around pressure points, such as the elbows. Rheumatoid arthritis itself, along with some medications used for treating rheumatoid arthritis, can increase your risk of osteoporosis - a condition that weakens your bones and makes them more prone to fracture. Rheumatoid arthritis increases your risk of developing: People who are overweight appear to be at a somewhat higher risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis. Smoking also appears to be associated with greater disease severity. Cigarette smoking increases your risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis, particularly if you have a genetic predisposition for developing the disease. If a member of your family has rheumatoid arthritis, you may have an increased risk of the disease. Rheumatoid arthritis can occur at any age, but it most commonly begins in middle age. Women are more likely than men to develop rheumatoid arthritis. Risk factorsįactors that may increase your risk of rheumatoid arthritis include: While your genes don't actually cause rheumatoid arthritis, they can make you more likely to react to environmental factors - such as infection with certain viruses and bacteria - that may trigger the disease. It can also cause medical problems with your heart, lungs, nerves, eyes and skin.ĭoctors don't know what starts this process, although a genetic component appears likely. In rheumatoid arthritis, your immune system attacks healthy tissue in your joints. Normally, your immune system helps protect your body from infection and disease. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease. Make an appointment with your doctor if you have persistent discomfort and swelling in your joints. Over time, rheumatoid arthritis can cause joints to deform and shift out of place. Periods of increased disease activity, called flares, alternate with periods of relative remission - when the swelling and pain fade or disappear. Rheumatoid arthritis signs and symptoms may vary in severity and may even come and go. In most cases, symptoms occur in the same joints on both sides of your body.Ībout 40% of people who have rheumatoid arthritis also experience signs and symptoms that don't involve the joints. Joint stiffness that is usually worse in the mornings and after inactivityĮarly rheumatoid arthritis tends to affect your smaller joints first - particularly the joints that attach your fingers to your hands and your toes to your feet.Īs the disease progresses, symptoms often spread to the wrists, knees, ankles, elbows, hips and shoulders.Signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis may include:

"The way they tell it made it look like a comedy," explains survivor Marc Schiller. I don't want the American public to be sympathetic to the killers." Zsuzsanna says that the movie's depiction of the gang as sympathetic goofballs is "ridiculous." She adds, "It's horrible what happened to them. Zsuzsanna Griga's brother Frank and his girlfriend Krisztina Furton were murdered and dismembered by members of the gang. Survivor Marc Schiller and the family members of the victims are furious over the movie's comedic take on the ordeal. The real Frank Griga and Krisztina Furton (top) were murdered and dismembered at the hands of the Sun Gym gang like in the movie (bottom). What do the victims and their family members think of the Pain & Gain movie? These mishaps are in addition to it taking roughly a half-dozen tries to successfully kidnap Marc Schiller. They burnt out the engine trying to start it, prompting them to return the saw to Home Depot. A chainsaw that they planned to use to cut up bodies failed to start because they forgot to put motor oil in it (in the movie, an electric chainsaw becomes clogged with hair). Vehicles that the trio used in the kidnapping attempts wouldn't start, including outside of Schlotzsky's Sandwich Shop, which was then owned by survivor Marc Schiller. With one victim, the real Sun Gym gang used too much horse tranquilizer. The mishaps of the real kidnappers makes it easy to see why Michael Bay decided to turn Pete Collins' Pain & Gain article into a dark comedy, shifting the focus away from the more serious side of the Pain and Gain true story. As for Carl Weekes, the biggest part of the Paul Doyle composite, he was given a ten-year sentence for his role in the Schiller abduction. Delgado was released in 2002, after serving only seven. Like Dwayne Johnson's character in the movie, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. In 1996, Jorge Delgado confessed his role in the kidnappings, pointing the finger at Daniel Lugo and Adrian Doorbal for the murder and dismemberment of Frank Griga and Krisztina Furton. Jorge Delgado on the other hand, had a wife and had not been to prison until after he was found guilty for his role as a member of the Sun Gym gang. Like Dwayne Johnson's Doyle, Carl Weekes had found Christianity after he got clean. New York native Carl Weekes was also an ex-con who had issues with alcohol and crack cocaine. In the movie, Doyle is a muscle-bound ex-con and a recovering addict who becomes hooked on cocaine. Survivor Marc Schiller describes the Havana-born Jorge Delgado as "meek," going on to say that "he wouldn't hurt a fly." Physically, the 140-pound lightweight Carl Weekes and the tall, thin Jorge Delgado are quite the opposite of Dwayne Johnson's Paul Doyle ( ). During our research into the Pain & Gain true story, we learned that the real Paul Doyle is a composite of primarily Carl Weekes, with shades of Jorge Delgado (pictured left) and Mario Sanchez thrown in (Sanchez was a weightlifting instructor brought in to serve as the intimidator during the Schiller kidnapping). Jorge Delgado (right) was also part of the inspiration for Dwayne Johnson's character Paul Doyle (left). A lower value raises average throughput by utilizing MTU capacity more efficiently. If the number of packets overwhelms any receiver, try a lower value. To reduce average latency, try raising the value. Select an initial value based on capacity of the receiving CPUs to handle NIC interrupts. ip link add link eth0 name eth0.8 type vlan id 8 adds tagged VID 8 to eth0, creating the eth0.8 subinterface. To begin, try a value within the range 50,000 to 150,000 packets per second. VLAN tagging in Linux is accomplished by using subinterfaces, e.g.The general goal is to determine the highest value that does not overwhelm any receiving hardware. Use these guidelines as you empirically tune this parameter: When an application rapidly sends one small message per send call, then adjust the packet send limit to increase throughput efficiency. However, if slow receivers report dataloss, then consider tuning the packet send limit (see the next item). For best results in most situations, set the packet send limit to zero. When an application sends batches of several messages in its send calls, it is probably already using UDP bandwidth efficiently.(This sending parameter has no effect at the receiving end.) Tune the packet send limit parameter on the senders’ transports.Pla圜ap is a GUI tool for playing back pcap/Wireshark captures (GPL, Linux/Windows). When an inbound packet arrives, the cost of the NIC interrupt is independent of the size of the data in the packet. packETH GUI/CLI Ethernet packet generator (GPL, Linux/OSX/Windows) Packet Sender is an open source utility to allow sending and receiving TCP, UDP, and SSL (encrypted TCP) packets (GPL, Linux/OSX/Windows). Hardware limits on the number of NIC I/O interrupts translate into limits on the receiver’s inbound message rate. It has a powerful packet configuration language, which is rather low. trafgen utilizes the packet (7) socket interface of Linux which postpones complete control over packet data and packet headers into the user space. However, even if the data send rate is low, a high packet send rate can still overwhelm a receiver. trafgen is a fast, zero-copy network traffic generator for debugging, performance evaluation, and fuzz-testing. Limiting the packet send rate also limits the data send rate (bytes per second), because the data send rate varies with the packet rate and the data sizes of the packets. To prevent these scenarios, you can limit the rate at which sending programs transmit UDP packets to the network.Īdministrators can empirically tune the flow of data packets from sending programs by adjusting the packet send limit, which is a required property of UDP-based transports. Upon receiving a UDP packet, I need to respond to the sender with the address he used to send the packet to which Im replying. With UDP-based transports such as multicast, fast sending programs can overwhelm slower receiving programs, which could result in retransmission-related latency, extra resource consumption of CPU cycles and network bandwidth, retransmission storms, or data loss. If the new bulb is off center or not aligned properly your image will be dim. It should be flush with the front of the lamp housing cage and the new bulb should sit exactly in the same placement as the old bulb. Purchasing a bare bulb is an economical option but you have to make sure it’s been installed properly. Check to make sure the bulb has been installed correctly. This problem usually only happens when you have replaced only the bulb and not the entire housing. Solution: Re-install the new bulb or replace the generic lamp previously installed. Use a can of compressed air and blow filters and ventilation holes dust free. Always clean your filters after replacing the projector lamp. When this happens, the projector temperature controls will go off. A build up of dust prevents proper air circulation and can cause the projector to become very hot and the lamp to explode. DLP projectors operate at high heat and most have one or more fans that blow air around the components to cool them off. The main reason a projector starts to heat up is because the air filters or ventilation holes are clogged with dust or other debris. For most people, the user experience and productivity benefits of QHD far outweigh the performance gains you get from going with a lower resolution screen.īefore the end of last year, I would have said 4K was not a viable resolution for PC gaming, but then NVIDIA came out with its 40 series GPUs. As for 1080p and 4K, I would only consider the former if you’re on a tight budget or you exclusively play competitive shooters like Valorant and Overwatch 2. If your budget allows for it, 1440p offers the best balance between visual clarity and gaming performance. And as you’ll see in a moment, a consistently high frame rate is vital to getting the most out of the latest gaming monitors. They can even render some competitive titles at 120 frames per second and higher - but push them to run those same games at 1440p and beyond, and you’re bound to run into problems. The latest entry-level GPUs can comfortably run most modern games at 1080p and 60 frames per second. You also need to consider the performance costs of running games at higher resolutions. Conversely, text and interface elements on a 4K monitor can look tiny without scaling on panels smaller than 32 inches. For instance, I wouldn’t recommend buying a FHD monitor that is larger than 24-inches or a QHD one bigger than 27 inches. For that reason, there tend to be sweet spots between size and resolution. As the size of a monitor increases, pixel density decreases unless you also increase resolution. I recommend you think about size in conjunction with resolution and aspect ratio.Ī 1440p monitor has 78 percent more pixels than a 1080p screen, and a 4K display has more than twice as many pixels as a QHD panel. Personal preference and the limitations of your gaming space will play a big part here, but there are also a few technical considerations. Screen size, resolution and aspect ratioĪfter deciding where you fall on the LCD vs OLED debate, you can start thinking about the size of your future gaming monitor. When you consider those drawbacks, OLEDs are great for gaming but they’re less ideal for everyday PC use. Every OLED gaming monitor you can buy in 2023 comes with features designed to prevent burn-in and other image retention issues, but those displays haven’t been on the market long enough for us to know how they handle all the static elements that come with Windows. Organic light-emitting diodes can get “stuck” if they display the same image for long periods of time. It’s not an issue you will see when gaming, but it does mean they aren’t the best for productivity.Īnother issue - and everyone’s favorite topic of conversation whenever OLEDs come up - is burn-in. Almost all OLEDs feature sub-pixel layouts that produce noticeable text fringing in Windows. Unfortunately, OLED screens also come with a few noteworthy drawbacks. Moreover, if you buy an OLED monitor, you can experience something PC gamers have been missing out on for a while: proper HDR gaming. Simply put, every game looks better when there’s no backlight to wash out shadow details. There’s something transformational about the ability of organic light-emitting diodes to produce true blacks. In many ways, OLED is the superior display tech. The majority of LCD gaming monitors on the market today feature IPS panels, though you will frequently find VA screens on ultrawide monitors. On the other hand, IPS panels excel at color accuracy and many offer refresh rates and response times that are as fast as the fastest TN panels. They’re not dramatically better than their IPS siblings on that front, but when contrast ratios aren’t an inherent strength of LCDs, every bit helps. VA panels also frequently sport better contrast ratios than both TN and IPS screens. However, that’s improved in recent years. Historically, VA gaming monitors have featured slower pixel response times than their TN and IPS counterparts, leading to unsightly image smearing. The differences between VA and IPS panels are more subtle. After using an IPS monitor for many years and testing an OLED monitor for this guide, I can’t go back to a TN panel. TN screens feature the worst viewing angles, contrast ratios and colors of the bunch. For the most part, you want to avoid TN monitors unless you’re strapped for cash or want a monitor with the fastest possible refresh rate. Without getting too technical, each panel type has its own set of quirks. LCD monitors come in three different varieties: twisted nematic (TN), vertical alignment (VA) or in-plane switching (IPS). |
